SANDBANKS chain ferry has announced an increase in its charges to use its services.

Bournemouth Swanage Motor Road & Ferry has announced an increase in its fares for all vehicles – cyclists and pedestrians will continue to pay £1 per ride.

Vehicles carrying fewer than 16 people will have to pay £5.20 from Saturday, April 1 when the new charges come into effect – a 20p increase.

A SFTC (Sandbanks Ferry Ticket Card) card for 10 passes for cars will increase from £36.72 to £37.44 and for 50 passes this will rise from £173.40 to £176.80.

Jason du Toit, managing director of the Sandbanks Ferry Company, said: “We are limited to the increases set out by the Department for Transport (DfT) and approved by them.

“We appreciate the support from our customers and continue to offer discounts on bulk purchases of vehicle passes for holders of Sandbanks Ferry Toll Cards (SFTCs).

“We continue to offer books of paper tickets for pedestrians, bicycles and motorcycles.”

The rise follows the approval of incremental increases to the maximum tolls chargeable two years ago, by the Department for Transport.

Small vans (less than 3,500kg) will be charged £5.20 (a 20p increase) and a large goods vehicle (weighing between 3,500kg and 20,000kg) will cost 40p at £10.40 per journey.
