A FIVE-year-old go-kart racer from Verwood is set to feature in karting’s version of hit TV documentary series Drive to Survive.

Elijah Tsang has been selected to star in the second series of Driven Dreams, a fly-on-the-wall series that will follow 11 young racers as they aim to reach the highest levels of the sport.

He began karting at the age of four, after he was given his first go-kart by his parents for Christmas. He was inspired to take up the sport by a Zoom call with Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas in 2020.

Bournemouth Echo:

Elijah’s mum, An, said he made an “amazing” start to racing, finishing fourth in his first race at Clay Pigeon in Dorchester, despite being the youngest racer in the field.

“He did well, considering his age,” An said.

“Right now, he’s the second youngest on the grid and most of the other kids are seven or eight.”

Bournemouth Echo:

He races in the MightE Bambino group, a class of the Bambino Karting Championship, that features drivers aged between four and eight racing in electric karts across six races in 2023, from March to September.

Series one of Driven Dreams followed young drivers through the 2022 season and has finished filming. It is set to be released later this year on Amazon Prime Video.

The second series, in which Elijah will feature, has begun filming as the 2023 season gets underway, and will be released in 2024.

“It’s basically the same thing as Drive to Survive but in the go-karting world,” An said.

“It’s more of a fly on the wall series, it follows the driver around all the races. When we got selected, we had a Zoom interview, got selected and then went up to London, for a photoshoot and a studio interview to get to know him a bit more, that will get incorporated into the documentary.

“I think Elijah is the youngest. There are different race teams, so there’s four in his race team (RCE) and there’s others from other race teams.”

An added: “We are really proud of him.”

Elijah is looking for sponsorship, to support his racing this year and beyond. Contact him on his Instagram @tsang_racing for details.
