Police are investigating after a male rugby player was allegedly assaulted during a match between Sherborne RFC and Wellington RFC at the Terrace Playing Fields.

Police received the report at around 3.30 pm on Saturday, March 4 2023.

The victim sustained fractures to his eye socket and cheekbone and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Detective Constable Liam Moss, of Dorset County CID, said: “I understand this incident may have been witnessed by a number of people at the match and would ask them to please come forward.

“We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances of what happened and would ask anyone with information to help our investigation or mobile phone footage of the incident to please get in touch.”

Dorset Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
