NO NEW parking charges will be implemented in a supermarket car park – despite confusion from customers and staff.

Signs have been put in Sainsbury’s Talbot Heath store in Alder Park alerting customers to pay by phone for daily and monthly parking.

Customers, along with staff, have been left confused as to whether they will now have to pay parking company Horizon to park their cars whilst shopping.

A spokeswoman for Sainsbury’s has confirmed there are no new charges in place for the car park.

She said: “The vast majority of parking at our Talbot Heath store is free for our customers.

“There are a tiny number of spaces which can be rented for extended stays.

“We have a limited number of extended stay spaces available for long stay daily or monthly rental, via www.horizonspaces.co.uk.”

The spokeswoman would not clarify who the extended stay spaces were for.

New prices are as high as £24 for up to a week’s worth of parking and as little as £4 for a few hours.

Parking will remain free for customers doing their shopping.
