MAJOR plans to build a block of flats up to 29 storeys in height in Bournemouth have been tabled.

The proposals for the redevelopment of the Holland House site in Oxford Road, Lansdowne, also include a gym for residents, co-working space and public realm improvements.

Marchmont Development Management has submitted the application to BCP Council on behalf of Peveril Securities for permission to deliver 474 build to rent apartments.

A spokesperson for Marchmont Development Management said: “Bournemouth is an exciting and vibrant town but suffers from a lack of suitable and well-designed residential schemes close to the town centre.

“Our proposal will deliver vital and affordable accommodation for all parts of the community in a high quality, professionally managed and sustainable building.”

The scheme, to be known as Oxford Gardens, would deliver 78 studios, 211 one-bed, 148 two-bed and 37 three-bed flats across three towers of varying heights in the single building.

Part of the application includes the demolition of Holland House, which is an eight-storey office block built in the mid 1980s, currently on the site.

At present the site is home to the vacant building and 112 car parking spaces.

The proposal includes six car parking spaces, three disability spaces and 534 cycle spaces, with plans for a car club and community cafe.

The applicant said the building, which is designed by London-based Jo Cowen Architects, would be “car free to encourage use of sustainable transport options”.

A representative from Peveril Securities said: “Further to our successful delivery of build to rent schemes in other parts of the UK, Peveril Securities is pleased to be entering the Bournemouth market to provide much needed rental homes.

“Our investment in Bournemouth is testament to our confidence in the area as a vibrant hub and an attractive place to both live and work.”

A design and access statement by Jo Cowen Architects said a “comprehensive” pre-application consultation process had taken place with stakeholders and residents.

The statement said: “In summary, the Oxford Gardens development seeks to create a significant number of much needed high quality new homes for Bournemouth, whilst replacing an unloved outdated building no longer fit for purpose, and in so doing, offering a substantial new public space for all to use and enjoy.

“The resulting proposal has the potential to create a tangible destination within Lansdowne, becoming both a focal point with a true sense of place and a catalyst for future ‘greener’ connectivity between the Lansdowne area and wider Bournemouth beyond.”
