MOREBUS is marking International Women's Day by celebrating its ‘rising stars’.

The Dorset bus operator said it was proud of its diverse workforce, and that they actively encourage women to build successful careers in the transport industry.

The managing director of Morebus, Andrew Wickham, said:“In the past, our industry has been largely dominated by men, but that is fast changing, as we look to recruit the very best talent - and gender just doesn’t come into that decision process.

“Those wishing to join our team can choose from a wide range of roles - from driver to marketing or engineering - and each offers its own mix of challenges and rewards.”

Morebus has seen a 54 per cent increase in women working for the company, rising from 48 women in 2017 to 74 in 2023.

Morebus driver, Chantel Pye, who is this week celebrating International Women’s Day with some of her driver colleagues, added: “I joined Morebus in January 2019, and have been pleased by the change in attitude I’ve seen towards women bus drivers - not just among colleagues but passengers too.

“I’m happy to see the number of female colleagues has increased by so many over recent years. In the end, though, it’s how you do your job that’s the most important thing - not what gender you are.”
