AN infant school in Poole has been graded Good in what has been described as an “overwhelmingly positive” Ofsted report.

Inspectors have released a report on Courthill Infant School in Parkstone following their visit in January.

The school was graded Good in all areas, except from its provision for pupils’ personal development which was said to be Outstanding.

The report said: “Pupils are at the heart of all that the school has to offer. Leaders have high expectations, and as a result, pupils achieve well.

“Leaders aspire for all pupils to develop a life-long love of learning and achieve their full potential. They have designed an ambitious curriculum which excites and inspires pupils to learn.

“Staff offer excellent pastoral support and go ‘above and beyond’ for pupils and their families. This ensures that pupils feel happy and safe in school and are ready to learn.

The report also recognised that staff help pupils to be “positive role models”. It describes how the children “learn how to contribute positively to society” through activities like visiting care homes or setting up food banks for those less fortunate.

On issues which need improvement, the report said: “In some subjects, learning is not designed well enough to enable pupils to gain the depth and fluency of knowledge they need.”

Ali Carter, Headteacher at Courthilll Infant School, described the report as “overwhelmingly positive”.

She said: “Ofsted’s inspection report recognises that Courthill is a wonderful school with a warm and nurturing environment.

We are especially proud that provision for pupils’ personal development is considered to be outstanding. This judgement is a real credit to the staff who offer ‘excellent pastoral support’ and who go ‘above and beyond’ for our pupils and families.

“We are also proud that Ofsted inspectors recognised Courthill’s unwavering focus on the development of the ‘whole child’ along with our tangible sense of community, where the well-being of pupils, staff and families is central.

“I am, of course, pleased with the inspectors’ judgements. But I am even more delighted by the results of parent responses to Ofsted’s questionnaire, with 100% of the 142 respondents saying they would recommend our school to other parents.”
