Letter: 'Why aren't green bin collections included in council tax?'

On a current issue green bin collections you would think the green bin service would be included in collections we pay for in our council tax.

But no. We have to pay on top of a typical council tax of £1,500 a year another £60 a year for the green bin.

So once set up you would think then it would run year on year until we stop it. But again no. Collection is for one year.

We have then to got through the whole lengthy process again year after year.

For this year I filled out the automated online registration two weeks ago.

In two weeks I have not been sent the sticker and with the first collection this week I called in to BCP.

This then is where you end up astonished. I am told it takes ‘up to six weeks for the packs to arrive’ and ‘no’ nothing can done.

The bin will not be collected until the sticker arrives.

So there we have it. Pay for the service. Service provider doesn’t deliver paperwork. No paperwork no service collection.

If BCP were a business they would of course be out of business within weeks.

Whoever in the business world would set up an ‘automatic system’ that takes up to six weeks to send out a 12 inch square sticker?

Unbelievably appalling. But then in my experience over years the going rate for BCP Council.

The solution? Close down the whole archaic hackneyed councillor system.

Bring in serious minded full-time elected commissioners to run the council.

As it is in two months in elections self same councillors will be doing their rounds telling us the problem is the ‘other lot’. The other party.

Well it’s not. It’s the whole rotten councillor system that answers to no-one.

So much that could be progress cancelled out in forever political party politics.

The worst of socialism. Guaranteed incomes with no accountability. The worse of capitalism. Vast sums of money wasted. No personal consequences.
