THIS is Bournemouth’s Hurn Airport back in the 1980s.
The airport began life as RAF Hurn in 1941 and was transferred to civil control in 1944..
For a short period, between 1944 and 1946, Hurn served as London’s international airport until the opening of facilities at Heathrow.

Commercial services resumed in the late 1950s, with Palmair commencing flights to Palma, Majorca in October 1958.
Since 2007, there have been some major upgrades and development, including replacing the arrivals terminal and upgrading the check-in and departure lounges.
Finished in July 2011, the new arrivals hall met budget and timeline expectations.
These pictures were all taken in the 1980s and include ABBA at the airport, the Red Arrows team, the bar, an aerial shot, a cadets pageant, movie star Lewis Collins at the airport and Richard Noble who set the land speed record.
