The highlight of the spring fair in Poole on April 30, 1990, was a dramatic air and sea ‘rescue’.
Two men were winched to safety from their boat by a helicopter from Portland's Royal Navel search and rescue team.
But neither of the men, who were both coastguards, were in any real danger, it was just a demonstration for the action-packed event.
Approximately 6,000 people attended the fair, which aimed to raise £1,500 for Age Concern, the mayor's charity.
Originally, the gates were due to open at 11am, but queues began at 10.30am, so it was decided to open early.
On that glorious spring day, the crowds had plenty to do in the wonderfully warm sunshine.
