These pictures, each taken from old postcards, provide a glimpse into what Milford on Sea looked like many years ago.

Originally a Saxon settlement, the name came from merging the two words ‘mill’ and ‘ford’.

At the time of the Domesday Book of 1086, two separate estates were located in Milford.

If pictures existed from those days, things would obviously be completely unrecognisable.

That said, things have changed dramatically since 1800.

Milford at the time was landlocked.

Some of these pictures were taken around that time, and others were snapped after the Second World War when the village had become popular as a spa resort.
