Conurbation-wide supermarket ban for prolific offender

Jamie Peter Campion was made subject to the two-year criminal behaviour order after he was convicted of 12 shoplifting offences, one count of theft, two counts of assault by beating and three offences of vehicle interference.

The 31-year-old has also been banned from entering any person’s driveway, garden or private residential property without having first been invited or given prior consent by the owner.

He must not touch or enter any unattended vehicle without the owner’s expressed permission and he must leave any shop, commercial or hospitality premises in Dorset if asked to do so by staff.

Campion, of Bingham Road, Winton, will spend the next few months in prison after he was sentenced to a total of 46 weeks’ imprisonment for his offending spree.

Investigations officer Dean Smith, of Dorset Police, said: “Jamie Campion is a prolific offender who regularly targeted both commercial premises and unattended motor vehicles in the areas of Winton and Charminster.

“Dorset Police recognises the impact this type of offending has on the local community, including those within the business sector.

“Officers and staff from the Volume Crime Team, Neighbourhood Enforcement Team and the Investigation Resolution Centre have worked collaboratively and effectively to compile the relevant evidence regarding Campion’s offending. This resulted in his conviction and a criminal behaviour order.

“It is hoped that this order, as well as Campion’s custodial sentence, will reduce the effect he has on our local community.

"If he is found to be in breach of the terms following his release from prison, Campion is liable to be arrested and brought back before the courts.”

Campion was sentenced at a Poole Magistrates’ Court hearing on Tuesday, February 7.

The court heard he stole from Waitrose in Wimborne Road, Winton, on 12 occasions between June and November last year.

He committed assault by beating offences in Charminster Road, Bournemouth, on October 2 and October 26.

The three vehicle interference offences took place in Hankinson Road in November, while his final offence involved the theft of golf clubs belonging to a man on December 4.
