AN INQUEST into the death of a young Poole mum killed in a hit and run crash has been closed following the conviction of the driver.

Courtney Frances White, 23, was killed in a crash on the A3049 Canford Way in Poole on Sunday, December 12, 2021.

Her killer, 20-year-old Lewis Clark pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on January 13, 2023, to three years and eight months in prison.

The inquest into Miss White’s death was opened nine days after her death and later suspended as a result of the criminal investigation proceedings.

Following the conclusion of the criminal case and conviction, the inquest into the death of Miss White was officially concluded by senior coroner for Dorset Rachael Griffin.

During a brief hearing at the Bournemouth Town Hall annexe on Monday, January 30, Mrs Griffin expressed her satisfaction with the criminal investigation findings and said this was “sufficient reason to bring this inquest to a formal conclusion”.

Miss White’s mother, Jasmine Moores, has asked the attorney general’s office to consider challenging Lewis Clark’s sentence in the Court of Appeal through the unduly lenient sentence scheme.

Ms Moores previously told the Echo: “I just felt like I needed to try and do something about the sentence.

“Some people get longer for carrying drugs but he actually killed an innocent civilian.

“I feel like I just have to do something for my daughter’s memory and for my granddaughter for when she grows older.”
