A DORSET MP has appealed for help after his "much-loved" family dog went missing on Friday, January 27.

North Dorset MP Simon Hoare posted an appeal on social media for help in finding the family’s terrier, Jerry.

He told the Echo Jerry is “as soft as butter”, and he went missing in Lydlynch, Dorset, near to where the family lives.

“He’s seven, and he’s lived here all his life. Occasionally he’ll run off after a hare or rabbit, but he always comes back,” he said.

“This is the first time he’s gone totally AWOL.

“There are three girls, [aged] 14, 12 and ten, there’s a 53-year-old father and a 51-year-old mother who have shed more than a tear or two.

“He’s a much-loved member of the family.”

The family has been searching the local area, but have found no sign of Jerry anywhere.

“We have knocked on doors, we’ve talked to all the local farmers, my daughter and I have been out all day literally scouring every hedgerow, we’ve stuck our heads into badger sets and foxholes, without disturbing them, and it is as if he has been vapourised.”

He added: “It is the most peculiar thing. There hasn’t been a sighting, nothing at all.”
