THE jury has retired to consider its verdict in the trial of a man accused of murdering a Bournemouth DJ in an early hours stabbing.

Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai, 21, is on trial at Salisbury Crown Court accused of the murder of 21-year-old Tom Roberts outside Subway in Old Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, on March 12, 2022.

Prosecutors allege that Abdulrahimzai murdered Mr Roberts when he stabbed him twice with a knife during an altercation over an e-scooter.

The trial heard that Mr Roberts died in hospital after suffering stab wounds to the chest and abdomen.

While giving evidence during the trial, Abdulrahimzai, who has admitted manslaughter, said he feared for his life during the incident with Mr Roberts and the complainant’s friend James Medway.

The defendant told the court he thought the two men were trying to kill him, with him wrongly believing Mr Roberts was an agent of the Taliban.

Judge Paul Dugdale concluded his directions on the morning of Thursday, January 19, before the 12-person jury was sent out to begin its deliberations shortly after 11.30am.

The jury were sent home by the judge at around 4pm, with their deliberations set to continue on Friday, January 20.

Abdulrahimzai, of Hill Street, Poole, denies murder. The trial continues.
