REVISED plans to transform a dormant Christchurch town centre site will go on show to the public this week.

Initial designs for up to 200 apartments on the Bridge Street former gas works site were revealed back in October.

Churchill Retirement Living held a two-day event at the King’s Hotel to gauge initial feedback on the proposed scheme.

Following this process, the developer has announced another consultation event.

An online statement said: “We are bringing forward proposals for a multi-generational development which will provide a mix of affordable, retirement and open-market housing.

“This event follows our well attended community events on October 7 and 8, 2022, and we are grateful to everyone who came to view the plans and provided us with valuable feedback.

“Having collated and analysed the feedback received, at this follow-up event, we will be displaying our revised plans for the proposed scheme which now respond to the views raised by the local community, BCP Council and the design review panel.”

The follow-up public event takes place at bowling green pavilion opposite the King’s Arms Hotel in Castle Street.

The revised plans will then be published online on Saturday, January 21, for a two-week online consultation to take place.

The initial proposal included the site of the gas works, pump house and former La Mamma’s restaurant but they do not include the car park or Civic Offices.

The plans released in October included one and two bedroom retirement flats, open market properties and affordable housing of up to three bedrooms.

There was also provision for car parking under the buildings and the creation of a new urban ‘quarter’ to ‘unify’ the incomplete frontage of Bridge Street.

Ringwood-based Churchill Retirement Living first announced its £30million vision for the site in March last year.

The land was previously home to five gasholder structures, which were removed in recent years by Southern Gas Networks (SGN).
