FAILED double glazing firm Wimborne Windows has been given a formal warning by the review website Trustpilot after its name on the site was changed to “Womborne Windews”.

As previously reported, the Ferndown-based business has said it has ceased trading and will appoint liquidators.

But for a period before Christmas, the name on its Trustpilot listing was changed to “Womborne Windews”, with a phone number that did not connect to the company.

After being contacted by the Daily Echo, Trustpilot investigated the company and said it had breached guidelines by changing its listing.

A spokesperson said: “In the case of Wimborne Windows, we have taken a look at the business’s profile page and can confirm the business committed a profile violation by using an incorrect company name on their Trustpilot profile page and directing users to the wrong domain. Displaying inaccurate or misleading information on a profile page is a clear breach of our Guidelines for Businesses.

“As a result, we have changed the business’s profile page name back to Wimborne Windows, and removed any mention of ‘Womborne Windews’ from the page. Alongside this, we have also rectified the URL the Trustpilot page links to back to wimbornewindows.co.uk, and have also removed the phone number listed as we could not verify that the number belongs to the actual business.

“In line with our Action We Take policy, we also took action against the business. We issued a formal warning to Wimborne Windows, informing them of their violation and explaining that any future attempts to mislead consumers by using inaccurate information on their profile page will result in us taking further enforcement action to protect the integrity of the Trustpilot platform. “As set out in our Action We Take policy, this further action may include blocking or limiting access to the business’ Trustpilot business account.”

Trustpilot said businesses’ profile pages remain online even if they enter insolvency proceedings as “it is still important that customers can submit and access reviews about that business”.

“For example, consumers may want to know about pre-closure bookings, deliveries, cancellations, and the processing of claims. These issues continue to be relevant to the users of our platform, which is why we won’t remove the profile page,” it added.

Wimborne Windows has a 3.1 score out of five on Trustpilot, although half the reviews left in the past 12 months have given it the minimum one-star rating.

The company has not responded to repeated requests for comment from the Daily Echo.

Its website still carries a statement from before Christmas which says: “Due to the large amount of recent customer cancellations Wimborne Windows & Double Glazing Ltd t/a Wimborne Windows has now ceased trading and can only look to deliver items in stock to customers where we can, if this relates to your order someone will be in touch soon.”

It urges people to claim from their credit card providers if they paid for orders by card. Those who want to submit a claim to liquidators are told to email liquidation@wimbornewindows.co.uk
