Harlees fish and chips chain nominated for national award

After an extensive judging process completed by an anonymous panel of industry experts, Harlees Fish & Chips has reached the final three nominated for Best Multiple Operators at the National Fish and Chip Awards 2023.

Harlees has takeaway and restaurant sites at Poole Quay, Verwood and Corfe Mullen, with two in Swanage, as well as branches in Wiltshire.

Nominated by the National Federation of Fish Friers, the multiple operator award category celebrates businesses which operate multiple fish and chips sites across the UK.

Harlees will face stiff competition from Hertfordshire-based The Chesterford Group and Durham-based Bells Fish & Chips.

The chain, which employs 95 people, is run by Richard Long and his daughter Kaylee Herbert – the third and fourth generations of the family to go into the industry.

Of the nomination, Kaylee said: “We are really proud of our team and we could not have done it without them. They have worked so hard for this during the pandemic and they really deserve it.

“At Harlees we have always been devoted to ensuring customers have the best experience and the best-tasting fish and chips.

“We are passionate about maintaining our caring, personal family feel business and it’s our mission to provide high-quality fish for the family and future.”

Andrew Crook, president of the NFFF, said: “Finding the best operators who have managed multiple sites during a difficult year for the industry is so important to highlight and celebrate their success. It’s amazing to see strong businesses thriving, and we’re looking forward to seeing them continue to grow in 2023.”

The National Fish and Chip Awards will take place on February 28 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.

Although the guest list is mainly industry-focused, tickets are open to the general public.
