BCP Council sent out gritters to treat all the major commuter routes across the conurbation last night.

As temperatures plummeted to an icy -7C overnight, the local authority assured residents that all the main roads across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole would be treated.

Residents across the area woke to frosty scenes this morning as the cold snap well and truly arrived.

A level three cold weather alert has been issued by the UK Health and Security Agency with people urged to check on vulnerable neighbours and family.

And although it's cold, the risk of snow seems to be disappearing.

BCP Council also issued an severe weather emergency protocol which will help to protect the area's rough sleepers during the cold snap.

Cllr Jane Kelly, BCP Council’s lead member for communities said: “If you can, ask your friends, family, or neighbours if they need any support and keep an eye on members of your household to ensure they wrap up warm and can have a hot meal."
