WHEN we think of carnivals we usually conjure up images in our minds of festivities in the summer sunshine. But occasionally they're not in the summer and quite often there's no sunshine!
Villages, towns and cities across the country have different ideas when it comes to scheduling the carnival, as is certainly the case for Shaftesbury.
The carnival, which has been running for more than 140 years, takes place much later in the year than most.
This year the procession made its way through the town on September 30, but thirty years ago it took place on October 5.
These pictures were taken that day in 1992 and show the floats, bands, majorettes and organisations as they snaked their way through the streets.
Some of the pictures taken by the Echo photographer were shot in colour while the majority were captured on black and white film.
