THE most reliable train station in the Dorset Council area has been revealed and its not the one you might expect.

Data from OnTimeTrains highlights the performance of trains across the county and compares their daily performance with nearby, and national, benchmarks.

Comparing figures over the past 12 weeks, only one of the stations made it into the top half nationally.

Out of the 2,624 stations ranked by OnTimeTrains, Sherborne placed 742nd nationwide - an increase of 1,817 places on the 12 week period beforeand.

73 per cent of trains arrived to Sherborne within two minutes of their scheduled time and just 11 per cent were delayed by 10 or more minutes.

At the other end of the scale, Wool is one of the least reliable in the whole country: it placed 2,341st out of the 2,624 stations. Less than one five trains to the station arrived on time (16 per cent).

Dorset's major stations - Weymouth and Dorchester South - have seen 70 per cent and 64 per cent, respectively, of trains arriving within two minutes of their scheduled time.
