Dorset dog lovers would have been barking mad to have missed this event back in 1987 – the 49th Bournemouth Canine Association Dog Show.
A total of 9,215 dogs – a record number for the event at that time – took part with discipline and organisation worthy of a guards regiment on manoeuvres.
Around the show, the competing owners awaited their turns before their performing pooches showed off their skills
The show took place with much success on August 7, but the very next day, organisers started work on the following year’s event – their special golden anniversary.
