These pictures of Bournemouth East Beach and are all taken from old postcards and show how much – or how little – the area has changed over the past 120 years.
The UK’s first public beach huts were situated in the area in 1909. The public can even rent the town’s oldest hut – number 2359 – from the council.
A blue plaque reads: “Bournemouth Beach Bungalow Constructed 1909.
“First municipal beach hut in the UK.
“Designed and built under guidance of Frederick Percy Dolamore
“1869-1951
“Chief Assistant Borough Engineer and Surveyor.”
