Motorists experienced slow traffic and long delays on Tuesday evening as a result of two key Dorset roads being closed in both directions.

A three-car crash between Calves Lane (Shaftesbury) and Motcombe turn off saw the B3081 blocked in both directions.

Emergency services were called to the incident at 4.43pm with closures in place for several hours: the road re-opened shortly before 7.50pm.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a report at 4.43pm of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles on the B3081 at Turnpike Corner near Gillingham.

"Officers have attended and the ambulance service has been notified.

"Road closures are being put in place as the emergency services attend.

"We do not have any information relating to any injuries at this time."

Meanwhile a second three-car collision closed the A30 Sherborne Causeway for almost three hours.

Emergency services attended the incident at 6.10pm with police, fire and ambulance crews all in attendance.

The crash caused a fuel spillage whilst traffic was also busy due to diversions as a result of the road closure in Motcombe.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "We received a repot at 6.10pm on Tuesday 29 November 2022 of a three vehicle collision on the A30 Sherborne Causeway.

"Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance services. There were no reports of any serious injuries.

"Recovery for the vehicles was arranged and officers left the scene shortly before 9pm."
