A MAJOR part of the traffic misery affecting motorists in Bournemouth is set to come to an end on schedule.

Engineers contracted by BCP Council have been working on the A338 Wessex Way since Monday, November 14.

The dual carriageway has been reduced to a single lane in both directions between Bournemouth West Roundabout and St Paul's Roundabout, while the speed limit has been dropped from 40mph to 30mph.

Some drivers have faced a short diversion on the A338 due to the closure of the slip road onto the Wessex Way eastbound carriageway at Richmond Hill Roundabout.

There were concerns work might overrun as initially the council said it would take approximately three weeks to complete but temporary traffic orders had been made for the project up until Friday, December 9.

However, a BCP Council spokesperson has confirmed the work to install two crossovers through the central reservation are on track to be completed this week by Friday, December 2.

As reported, this £250,000 scheme is a precursor to a maintenance project on the stretch of the A338 which is an overbridge above Braidley Road.

A date and duration for this overbridge work has not been released, however, BCP Council has said it will require the use of crossovers to contraflow traffic onto the opposite carriageway.
