POLICE are investigating further attacks aimed at bus shelters in Christchurch.

Two bus shelters in Somerford Road and Bridge Street have been smashed by vandals and left with glass scattered across the pavement.

The damage is understood to have occurred on the evening on Thursday, November 24.

Officers investigating the incident have appealed for information, or any dash cam or doorbell footage from the area.

It follows a spree of vandalism directed at bus shelters in the area last month, which was slammed as “pointless and mindless” by elected leaders.

The damage was not initially reported, and at some shelters, the smashed glass led on the floor for days.

Burton and Grange ward councillor Simon McCormack criticised Dorset Police and BCP Council for their reaction to the incidents.

In an email directed to the Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner, David Sidwick, and the local authority, Cllr McCormack said: “This just seems like a complete monumental failure of both the council to report the incidents and Dorset Police to react to what could have been prime evidence.

“At the moment my residents are feeling very despondent, with a failing council and now a police force failing them as well.”

Speaking last month, the Christchurch Neighbourhood Policing Team said that while they weren’t initially aware of the damage, they had launched an investigation to "identify the culprits".

They added that they were “absolutely committed to tackling crime and anti-social behaviour in Christchurch” and that they would have officers patrolling the area “to reduce future incidents.”
