PART of a former North Dorset bank could be converted for use as a pizza take-away business.

Dorset Council is being asked to approve the change of use for the former TSB offices at Sydenham House in the High Street at Gillingham.

The planning application, from Third State Pizza Limited, asks for a change to part of the ground floor to a hot food take-away, with alterations to the shopfront and the installation of ventilation and air extraction equipment.

The building, which is on the corner of the High Street and School Lane, was last used by the TSB until it was closed in June 2022 as part of a nation-wide reorganisation of the business. It had previously been a Cheltenham and Gloucester Building Society branch.

Papers with the application say that the building is intended for a branch of Domino's which will operate from 11am to 11pm daily, creating a small number of full and part-time jobs.

Servicing for the new outlet will be from the rear of the site which has a car park for five vehicles.

Public comments on the application, Dorset Council reference 2022/07102, remain open until December 15th.
