THE OWNERS of a camping site which won a prestigious award has said they hope it will put a spotlight on local tourism businesses in Dorset 

Family-owned Wareham Forest Tourist Park was recently crowned South West Campsite of the Year 2022 by the AA. 

The park, in North Trigon, Wareham, was acquired by husband-and-wife team Tony and Sarah Birch 20 years ago and that 70 per cent of their guests return to the site. 

Tony said: “It’s an immensely proud achievement for us, not least because Wareham Forest was chosen from among the many superb parks which the South West has to offer.

“The AA award is particularly special to us because the judging is based not just on our quality standards, but also the experience which guests enjoy during their stay. 

“Providing happy holiday memories has always been our main priority, and our friendly and helpful team here deserve a big vote of thanks for helping us gain this honour. 

“I hope that the award will also benefit other local tourism businesses by putting the spotlight on Dorset as a fantastic place for a great holiday in gorgeous surroundings.”

The couple, who run the site alongside daughter Chrissy and her husband Ben, added: “We have certainly had very positive feedback from across the board including the local community and on our Facebook page which has been really appreciated and lovely for all the team.

“We were full the weekend following the article especially with the glorious weather, and guests are certainly mentioning it when booking for holidays in the future. 

“As we take great pride in our family business, we always try to reinvest into the park each year to show improvements to our many guests who return year after year.

“Last winter we upgraded the water heating system, installed new double-glazing windows and some refurbishment work in one of our toilet blocks.  

“This winter we have already carried out repairs and upgrades to the outdoor swimming pool.” 

Wareham Forest, which is open all year, is also a member of the Best of British group of independently-owned parks in Britain, all of which have all achieved recognition for their high quality standards.
