AN electrical fire broke out at the Littledown Centre in the early hours of this morning.

The leisure centre is currently closed until further notice due to a power outage.

BH Live said the centre was closed at the time of the fire which occurred at 2.38am in the plant room.

A spokesperson said: “Earlier this morning (Thursday 24 November 2022) emergency services attended to a contained fire in a section of Littledown’s plant room.

“The centre was closed at the time.

“There is currently a loss of power, and the centre is temporarily closed until further notice.

"A team is currently assessing the situation.

“We’ll be contacting customers who have booked sessions or lessons about their options.

“We’d like to reassure customers that we are doing all we can and will provide a further update as soon as possible.”

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2.38am this morning.

Crews from Springbourne, Christchurch, Redhill Park, Westbourne and Ferndown attended the incident, which involved an electrical fire in the plant room of the building.

A spokesperson said: "Six breathing apparatus wearers used CO2 extinguishers to extinguish the fire, before working on naturally ventilating the rest of the building.

"Our stop came at 4.07am and the incident was handed over to the site manager."

A fire investigation has been carried out and revealed the cause to be accidental as it was an electrical fault.

Customers have been urged not to visit or telephone the centre during the closure.

The car park remains open as usual for permit holders.

During the closure, people can use alternative gyms, classes, pools and sports facilities at Stokewood, Sir David English Sports Centre, Pelhams and Corfe Mullen.

Activity, gym and pool timetables are available on the BH Live Active app and at bhliveactive.org.uk.

The spokesperson added: “We are sorry for any inconvenience.”
