A HOUSE in Bournemouth has been given a football inspired makeover.

James Richardson, 38, and his partner Alexandra, 28, have decorated the front of their home on Charminster Road to mark the arrival of this year’s World Cup.

With England bunting and lanterns, and flags to represent the 32 teams taking part, the display has been quick to grab the attention of passers-by.

James said: “People stop and take pictures, and we see people going past on the bus smile at it, especially at night, because we light everything up.

"It adds a bit of colour to the road and puts a smile on people’s faces.”

It will be the second time the football crazy couple have given their home a makeover, with their first decorations set up for the Euros in 2021.

James said: “We both love our football. We’re passionate about it and we love the sport.

“But it’s just a game, and people take it too seriously. Sadly, the English have got a bit of a reputation. There’s a lot of negativities with it, because of what’s going on behind the scenes, but me and Alex don’t bother with that.

"We’re just celebrating the football and getting behind the lads.”

Luckily for the pair, their displays have received the backing of their neighbours. James added: “Our neighbours love it. They think we’re eccentric.”

James and Alexandra will be watching the World Cup, alongside their cat Flash, from the comfort of their newly decorated home.
