PART of the A31 was closed this evening while an overturned vehicle was recovered.

The A31 westbound from the junction with the A350 Roundhouse Roundabout to the A35 at Bere Regis was closed from 7.15pm, and eastbound from Bere Regis at 7.30pm.

It was to allow the recovery of a Luton Ford Transit van from the garden of a property near Red Post.

The road was opened eastbound at Bere Regis at 8.30pm and reopened westbound at the Roundhouse Roundabout by 8.45pm.

As reported, the vehicle, which was previously said to be a lorry, was involved in a collision on the A31 at Winterborne Zelston on Monday morning.

Following the incident, a Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “A fire crew from Poole attended the scene of a road traffic collision involving a lorry which left the road and hit a tree in the garden of a property in Winterborne Zelston.

“Nobody was trapped but firefighters assessed the scene and ensured that the vehicle was stable, as well as isolating the vehicle ignition.”

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 11.36am on Monday 14 November 2022 to a report of a collision involving a lorry on the A31 at Winterborne Zelston.

“It is reported that the lorry has overturned. Officers in attendance with ambulance and fire services. Recovery has been requested for the vehicle.”
