MEMBERS have thrown their weight behind a bus improvement plan which could see new major bus routes, priority at more junctions and new CCTV at Poole Bus Station.

The schemes are just some of the projects which could be delivered through an £8.9million pool of funding from government.

At a full council meeting last week, members of the council expressed cross-party support for BCP Council’s bus service improvement plan, which will be delivered over the next three years.

To support the plan, the council has been successful in receiving the indicative grant award from the Department for Transport under its ‘Bus Back Better’ national bus strategy.

Securing the £8.9million in funding will be dependent on the enhanced partnership between the council and bus operators.

The collapse of Yellow Buses earlier this year, was not expected to have an impact, a report to members said.

DfT expect the vast majority of the allocation is spent on bus priority, ambitious and attractive initiatives to reduce and simplify fares, and increased service frequencies and new or expanded routes.

Councillors accepted the plan and delegated delivery of the scheme to the lead officer and portfolio holder for transport.
