BOURNEMOUTH has a new bar – and it isn’t quite what you would expect.

This is what the owners of The Hatch, in Kerley Road, West Cliff, want you to think.

Set up in the back garden of the Havana Beach House Hotel, owner Terry Crump has given his latest business venture a surfing theme.

Ian Black, marketing and promotion manager, said: “What we are trying to achieve is somewhere where people can come.

“There are no real expectations from people: they can just come along, chill out, relax, have a couple of drinks with friends and just enjoy themselves. Like a home from home.

“It's a beer garden, chilled out type vibe.

“There is still a lot to do and it’s still a learning curve, but we’ve got the foundations and it's just seeing what people think of it.”

The bar and restaurant serve freshly homemade pizzas from a pizza oven as well as cocktails and other drinks.

There are also multiple log burners to keep guests warm and a jacuzzi with a screen to watch films on, available for private hire.

Speaking of the inspiration Terry had, Ian said: “He is a water baby, really. I think he feels a bit disgruntled that he has to walk on land.

“He's got a strong surfing background; I think at one point he was semi pro and sponsored. He now runs a surf school out of here.

“He's very relaxed and sort of chilled down, calm, and he just wants to portray that in what he does here.

“If you came to us and said this is what we want to do, as long as it's not illegal, we'll find a way of doing it.”

Terry added: “It’s quite a unique set up: you’ve got the sauna, the hot tub, the VIP area which can be booked out, an ice bath.

“There is a chilled vibe to it. We’ve always had this space free to we thought why not use it?”

The Hatch is open from 5pm to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
