A SAILOR was rescued by the coastguard in Hampshire after getting caught up in a strong swell in the sea.
Southbourne Coastguard said they received a report of a vessel which had run aground at Barton-on-Sea at 10.18am on Saturday, November 12.
The Dorset-based coastguard was joined by the Lymington Coastguard Rescue Team and Mudeford Lifeboat to rescue one person on board who was caught up in the strong swell.
A swell is a series of mechanical waves that propagate along the interface and are usually caused by strong winds.
The person was helped by the coastguard and was disembarked from the stuck boat before the person was passed to the ambulance service.
A spokesperson for Southbourne Coastguard said: “Once on scene we ensured the person was able to disembark the vessel safely where we then provided appropriate casualty care until the sailor was passed to the ambulance service.
“With the casualty now in the care of the ambulance service we stood down and returned to station.”
