IT SOUNDS like a recipe for disaster: axe-throwing and drink

But the organisers of Bournemouth’s new and only axe-throwing bar have revealed how they avoid any injuries or incidents.

Staff at Boom Battle Bar in BH2 leisure complex in the town centre are allowed to breathalyse customers if they suspect they have been drinking before attending.

People are also given wristbands to wear so staff know not to serve its wearer any drinks – avoiding any potentially serious injuries.

Michael, duty manager at Boom Battle Bar, said: “Nobody is allowed to drink when they do it and it is all highly regulated.

“Everybody gets wristbands so all the team know not to serve them alcohol, they can’t drink beforehand and if we suspect that they have drunk we have a breathalyser so we can be sure that they haven’t.”

He added the venue has been getting “busier and busier every weekend”.
