DRIVERS are being urged not to park on zig zags at a pedestrian crossing in New Milton.

It comes after two drivers were spotted parking their cars on the high street on Friday, November 4, with one of the cars obstructing the crossing.

A Lymington and New Milton Cops spokesperson said: “This may seem like a trivial matter to some, but in light of an incident in 2018 in Wareham in which a three-year-old boy was killed due in part to a car being parked at a crossing, the ramifications for such acts can be fatal.”

The spokesperson said there has also been an increased in shoplifting incidents in the town and officers will be “liaising with colleagues in different areas to identify those who aren't known to us, so we can take action against them.”

Meanwhile, evening foot and cycle patrols are also taking place in New Milton in order to "deter late night criminality.”

On Tuesday night, November 8, officers attended an address in carry out an arrest for a man who had imported a “large quantity of illegal drugs into the country.”

Police said a 33-year-old man was arrested “on suspicion of that offence and a subsequent search of the property found more illegal drugs, and suspected evidence of drug dealing”.

The man has been released on bail until next year.
