DORSET’S most famous couple helped launch an online art auction in Christchurch in aid of the ‘Mac Unit’ hospice.

Harry and Sandra Redknapp attended a preview of some of the artworks on offer at The Captain’s Club Hotel and Spa in Christchurch, which sponsored the launch event.

The ‘Canvas for the Mac’ auction will see dozens of signed canvas artworks, doodles, sketches and lyrics by well-known names from the worlds of TV, sport, art and music, ‘brought to life’ by artists and auctioned online from November 25.

All money raised through the event will go the charity Macmillan Caring Locally which is raising funds to create a new, modern Macmillan Unit in the grounds of Christchurch Hospital.

The unit provides palliative care and support for more than 1,600 people and their families every year.

Harry met with supporters and nursing staff from the Macmillan Unit, as well as artists who gave their time to turn the celebrity signings into works of art.

Former Cherries boss Harry said: “I hope fans will go online and bag themselves a really unique piece of memorabilia whilst also helping the Mac Unit, which provides such outstanding care to so many patients and their families each year.”

Other celebrities who have signed canvases for the auction include Ricky Gervais, Martin Clunes, Sir David Jason and Brian May.

All canvases are also accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

The Canvas for the Mac auction will take place online for 10 days from November 25.
