FLOOD gates have been closed at Christchurch Harbour as an alert has been issued over flooding.

The Environment Agency warning is in force for high water today at 9.43am.

A water level of 1.20 mAODN (height above average sea level) is forecast along with westerly force 6 winds.

An alert was also issued for high tide last night at 9.25pm.

An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “Areas most at risk are Christchurch Harbour and tidal stretches of the Rivers Avon and Stour. All flood gates have been closed. We will continue to monitor levels closely.”

Elsewhere, a flood alert remains in force for the east coast of Dorset, with areas most at risk including Castletown, Weymouth, Preston Beach, Swanage Bay, Studland Bay, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth Beach, Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour.  

Earlier this week, flood alerts were issued for Christchurch and Poole harbours with weather warnings for wind and rain also in force. 

There are currently no weather warnings in place from the Met Office.
