I AM writing on behalf of an elderly couple I support in the community.

The lady is 86 The gentleman is 90. They both have serious underlying health issues, plus Covid.

Their wheelie bin was ready to be emptied on Weds, November 2. The neighbour kindly puts the bin outside. On this particular occasion the bin was not emptied. A mistake which of course anyone could make.

When contacting the relevant dept to report this ,we were told ‘you cannot report this today, you have to wait a day to report a missed collection’.

The lady I support explained that due to poor health, the contents of the bin resulted in waste that needed regular disposal. Without going into depth the bin gets full very quickly.

The person from the department stated under no circumstances could the missed collection be rectified for at least five days.

We asked if we could speak to anyone else in the council to explain. Unfortunately we were told there is not one single person in the whole of the council except the person we were talking to.

What a farcical debacle state of affairs? Isn’t it a good job our elderly generation didn’t have this sort of mindset during the wars so many fought in?
