HOLIDAYMAKERS and locals had the time of their lives when the Radio One Roadshow stopped off in Bournemouth.

And as the roadshow celebrates 50 years since its first event we look back at the day it came to Bournemouth.

It was the 15th year the Roadshow had been running and it formed a vital part of the summer for many pop music fans.

Host of the Roadshow when it called in at Bournemouth on August 21, 1987, was early morning DJ Adrian John.

“You never know what to expect on a roadshow,” Adrian told the Echo at the time. “You have a good idea on the fun aspect, but every town has its ingredient.”

“I enjoy being in front of an audience. I get a tremendous kick out of it.”

Bournemouth Echo: Radio One Roadshow - August 21, 1987.

The square west of Bournemouth Pier was packed with young people all wanting to get on the familiar Roadshow antics such as Bits and Pieces where four contestants battle to name the artists of brief snippets of hits.
