A FORK in the chine marked the southern boundary of the Denewood estate with rustic bridges.

According to Winston Churchill’s autobiography, while on holiday in the area in 1892, he apparently fell from one of the bridges. He was 18 years old at the time.

Churchill plummeted 29 feet, ruptured his kidney and lay in a coma for three days. He was unable to leave his bed for three months.

Many contest it happened here, suggesting it was actually from the bridge in Branksome Dene Chine, Poole.
