STRONG winds saw an aircraft unable to land at Bournemouth Airport on Monday evening.

The FR2269 Ryanair flight from Dublin to Bournemouth was diverted to London Stansted Airport after stormy conditions hit the south coast.

Bournemouth Airport confirmed that the crew made no attempt to land in Bournemouth, based on the weather conditions at the airport.

Instead, the aircraft was diverted to Stansted, where it landed at 11.51pm - an hour and 51 minutes later than expected.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said: “This flight from Dublin to Bournemouth (31 Oct) diverted to London Stansted due to adverse weather conditions at Bournemouth.

“To minimise disruption, transportation to Bournemouth was arranged for affected passengers. Ryanair sincerely apologises to these passengers for the delay as a result of these weather conditions which were completely beyond our control.”

No other aircrafts were due to land at Bournemouth Airport on Monday evening, and so the FR2269 Ryanair flight was the only impacted.

It came ahead of a yellow weather warning issued for strong winds that remained in force until 8am on Tuesday.
