A SCHOOL in Bournemouth has appointed a new headteacher.

Bournemouth Collegiate School (BCS) has appointed Maria Coulter to a permanent headteacher position.

Maria had joined the school 11 years ago as deputy head but took on the headteacher role on an interim basis on September 1.

She said she was “delighted” to be given the permanent role at the school.

The appointment followed Maria’s 28 years' experience in education. She began her career teaching business and economics and has since held various leadership roles in different areas of the school, with a focus on sixth form education.

Maria said: “BCS is an outstanding school with a rich history dating back to 1880s. What sets the school apart today is its clear purpose of equipping our pupils with the tools and experiences for a successful and enriching future by creating a curious, creative, and committed community.”

The new head has plans to continue teaching alongside her leadership responsibilities, adding that it is really important for her to “stay connected to pupils".

Maria added: "BCS is at such an exciting stage in its development as part of a wider education group, CATS Global Schools. We have secured investment to improve the site to develop the student experience, including irrigating the playing field and improving the early years play area, tennis courts, and swimming pool.

"I look forward to working with the whole community."

"I wish Maria every success in the role, and I am confident that the school will continue to thrive under Maria's leadership and go from strength to strength as a leading prep and senior school in the area.”
