A HELICOPTER and RNLI crews have been called to help a person in difficulty onboard a yacht.

UK Coastguard requested the help of lifeboats shortly after 6.30pm on Sunday following reports of an invididual with a head injury onboard an 11-metre yacht six miles south of Southbourne.

The casualty was said to be drifting in and out of consciousness.

A Swanage lifeboat was also tasked, along with the rescue helicopter 175.

Crews from Poole and Swanage, alongside a paramedic who had been lowered from the helicopter, went on board the yacht to assist the casualty.

The casualty was then safely transferred off the yacht and onto the Swanage lifeboat, before being taken to land for an ambulance.

RNLI volunteer helm Jonathan Clark said: “It was very good teamwork tonight in challenging conditions helping a poorly casualty. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery".
