AN ‘upturned canoe’ sparked a callout by the coastguard – but it turned out to be a tree trunk.
Southbourne Coastguard was called to reports of a possible upturned canoe or person in the water near Bournemouth.
However, once on the scene it became clear the object was in fact a “very large” tree trunk.
The incident happened at around 2.30pm on Saturday, October 22, but details were only just been published on the Southbourne Coastguard Facebook page on October 30.
A Southbourne Coastguard spokesperson said: “Once on scene we established the object, which had made shore was in fact was a very large tree trunk.
“With tide low and turning, the tree trunk posed a hazard to navigation therefore BCP council were requested to remove above the high water mark.”
