VEHICLE crime is on the rise in the Poole area according to local police who have urged residents to stay vigilant.
Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have provided several tips for members of the community to help deter vehicle offences, noting a particular increase in theft.
A Poole NPT spokesperson said: “Attention members of the community. The Poole Neighbourhood Policing Team have seen a notable increase in vehicle crime including theft of motorbikes and vehicles in the BH12 area.
“Whilst these crimes are under investigation and enquiries are made, [we] would like to take the opportunity to provide crime prevention advice which can assist with deterring these crimes.”
Advice given by the police is:
- Don't leave valuables on show
- Keep fobs and keys safe and out of reach
- Lock all doors and windows, most opportunists try door handles, fail and try the next vehicle
- Consider installing an approved alarm
- Install a tracker to greatly increase the chances of finding your vehicle if stolen
- Secure number plates with one-way clutch head screws
- CCTV is a powerful deterrent when parking at home
The spokesperson added: “Keep a good communication network with your neighbours and look out for each other. If a crime is in progress call 999 immediately and provide as much detail as possible, including any direction of travel.”
