A bolt of lightning appears to hit the sea in this amazing shot.

It was taken on Portland on Sunday afternoon as another storm rolled in.

The county was battered by more thunderstorms and a further band of heavy rain was expected overnight.

The storm appeared to have moved over in the direction of Purbeck and east Dorset as it came up from the Channel.

This area did witness some lightning flashes - and Charlotte Chapman was lucky to get this picture on Portland, taken at around 3.15pm.

It's taken from a video, a clip of which can be viewed below.

Charlotte said: "I've recently moved back to Portland after living in Bristol for the past 11 years.

"And to be honest, all I've done is stare out to sea since I've been home. I've missed this so much and taken it for granted when I lived here as a child and young adult - hence after a quick weekend break with my partner, we both decided to move back home.

"This picture was taken from the top of Woolcombe Road. I had been watching the storm coming in and managed to get a video and freeze framed this amazing shot."
