A POPULAR Poole bar and restaurant is set to be relaunched, as a planning application for new signage is submitted.

The proposal for the former Penn Central venue will rename the pub to 'The Old Bank'.

Star Pubs & Bars sought permission for the erection of illuminated and non-illuminated signs on the exterior of the former Penn Central building.

In January 2022, Penn Central closed its doors after the bar’s long-serving landlord was told to leave.

The pub has been closed since for refurbishments and the Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars said the venue will reopen with a new name.

The application is currently at the planning stage, but should the current application be approved, Star Pubs & Bars have said no work is "likely to happen until next spring at the earliest."

Back in March this year, Star Pubs & Bars sought permission to build a new glazed garden room at Penn Central on Penn Hill Avenue.

The application was to extend the building further into an area currently used as an outdoor seating area.
