A YOUNG man has been jailed for several months after he entered a town centre shopping complex with a large sword.
Cameron Bhatt, 19, was committed to prison at Poole Magistrates’ Court for multiple offences, including the possession of the offensive weapon at The Dolphin Centre in Poole on March 17.
Bhatt was also in the dock for stealing a case of Budweiser valued at £13 from Asda in Culliford Crescent, Canford Heath, on May 31, stealing a crate of lager from Sainsbury’s in Old Orchard, Poole, on June 16 and assaulting a man by beating him at Branksome Chine Beach on June 22.
The defendant, whose address was given as Langdon Road, Poole, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft, one charge of having an offensive weapon in a public place and one allegation of failing to surrender to custody at court on October 10, having been released on bail.
Appearing in the dock at Poole Magistrates’ Court on October 14, the bench committed Bhatt to prison for 26 weeks.
He was also ordered to pay compensation of £200 to the assault complainant, £12 to Sainsbury’s and £13 to Asda.
The court ordered that the sword be forfeited and destroyed.
