Did you know the Bournemouth area used to have three piers?
Today we can still enjoy the piers at Bournemouth and Boscombe but back in the late 1800s Southbourne had its own pier.
It was designed by Archibald Smith and built by the Southbourne Pier Company in 1888.
Enjoyed by locals and visitors alike, the structure was seriously damaged by a gale in December 1900 and wrecked by another gale only six day later.
The damaged pier stood until it was dismantled in 1907 because it became a danger to life.
